ABOUT

Weekend Food Support for Chelan & Manson Students

In partnership with Lake Chelan and Manson School Districts,
Thrive Chelan Valley offers weekend food support for school-aged students.

For Elementary Students in the Lake Chelan Valley

Food2School bags are distributed during the school year to elementary students in need at M.O.E. and Manson Elementary.

Bags are available and distributed weekly by school staff. Please contact us at 509-699-9065 to be added to the list.

A food pantry has been launched at both Chelan MS/HS & Manson MS/HS to support weekend food needs for teens.

If you are a local middle/high school student in need of weekend food, please contact your school counselor.

Over 60% of

Students

DID YOU KNOW

in our valley struggle to find access to reliable meals outside the school day.

We know that this affects students significantly. Without proper nutrition, they may struggle with focus, have less energy, and sometimes experience behavior issues.

To help provide relief, Thrive Chelan Valley launched Food2Schools, a weekend meal program designed to supply food insecure youth with evening and weekend meals that support their nourishment in addition to school breakfast and lunches.

Since that time, it is estimated that over 20,000 meals have been served to hungry Chelan and Manson students.

Partnerships

PROGRAMS LIKE THIS EXIST BECAUSE OF

In addition to our partnerships with local school districts to deploy these resources directly to students, we have also partnered with Second Harvest (Spokane) to ensure we have the food we need to keep local bellies full.

Each month, Second Harvest delivers the food we order and from there, our staff and volunteers distribute it to local schools.

We’re Grateful for Our Community Partners

A SNAPSHOT OF OUR GROWTH

In 2019, a total of 347 bags were served to food-insecure youth.

By 2021, that number grew to over

6,800 bags

for students in Chelan and Manson.

We’re projecting that by the end of 2022, close to 7,000 bags will be provided to Chelan & Manson students.

We are thankful for the opportunity to make a real difference when it comes to childhood hunger.

What’s in the Bag?

Thrive has teamed up with Second Harvest Spokane to provide protein-rich, nutritious, and shelf-stable food for local youth on weekends.

This partnership allows Thrive to buy more food at less-than-wholesale prices, maximizing donations and offering greater support to Chelan and Manson students who lack access to school meals.

While our shipment from Second Harvest varies each month, we usually receive some of the following shelf-stable items:

  • Chef Boyardee Mac & Cheese/Ravioli

  • Bottled Chocolate Milk

  • Applesauce Pouches

  • Chicken Bites or Beef Jerky

  • Yogurt Pouches

  • Fruit Leather

  • Whole Grain Cereal

  • Animal Crackers

  • Toaster Pastries/Pop-Tarts

  • Pretzel Goldfish or Cheez-It Crackers
